Florida freshman Thomas Holley will miss the season following hip surgery.

Coach Will Muschamp says Holley had surgery Monday to repair torn cartilage in his hip joint.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle from Brooklyn, New York, will need about four months of recovery time, Muschamp says, and should be ready for spring practice in March. He will get a medical redshirt, leaving him with four years of eligibility.

Muschamp says Holley's injury stems from a sports hernia he sustained in high school.

Muschamp says, "Disappointed for Thomas. Certainly a guy that athletically we were very excited about. ... He just had a lot of discomfort involved, so we just decided to go ahead and do it."
