The 2015 Mosaic Stinger Shootout will be headlined by some of the top players in the nation, as well as some of the top teams in the state of the Florida.  The final three games of the 2-day, 10-game event will be broadcast live on Bright House Sports Network.

TV Schedule: Saturday, January 31st

5 PM – Dr. Phillips vs. Winter Haven

7 PM – Tampa Prep vs. Bartow

9 PM – Oak Ridge vs. Lakeland

Perennial power Dr. Phillips has played one of the toughest schedules in the Central Florida area, but they’ve found their groove in 2015, as they are undefeated since a December 29th loss to Oldsmar Christian.  Leading scorer Jonathan Laurent is a 3-star recruit with an offer from UCF, and leads a Panthers team that should extend the program’s postseason streak to seven years this season.

Winter Haven is led by four-year starter and UCF signee Chance McSpadden.  The 19th-ranked senior in the state by Florida Hoops will soon surpass the 2,000-career point mark.  Tyrone Woodside’s Blue Devils made back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2012 and 2013.  Behind double-digit scorers McSpadden (22.8 ppg), Derrick Wiggins (14.9 ppg) and Darius James (10.3 ppg), Winter Haven is a 6A Final Four contender again.

Joe Fenlon has built quite a powerhouse with Tampa Prep.  The Terrapins have made ten consecutive playoff appearances and have advanced to the state title game in three of the last five seasons, including winning the 2012 3A Championship.  Behind star junior Juwan Durham, the Terrapins have been considered one of the top teams in the state and the Bay Area all season.  Durham is averaging a double-double for the second straight season and is ranked the 2nd-best junior in the state by Florida Hoops.  ESPN ranks him the 21st-best recruit in the nation for the Class of 2016.  The lone losses for the Terrapins this season came to nationally-ranked Pope John XXIII (NJ) and archrival Berkeley Prep.

The host school Bartow has emerged as the top program in Polk County over the last decade, having advanced to four Final Fours in the last six seasons.  The 2014 7A Runners-Up have lost three games by a total of seven points and continue to excel on defense, playing that ferocious “Bartow Style” that the Yellow Jackets have become known for under Terrence McGriff.  Tony Bradley could potentially be one of Polk County’s best-ever post players by the time his prep career is over.  The junior is averaging a double-double and has offers from some of the top programs in the nation, including Florida, Kansas and North Carolina.  ESPN ranks him the 28th-best junior in the nation, so two Top 30 recruits from the Class of 2016 will be battling in the paint in the Tampa Prep-Bartow showdown.

With the superstar talent of Antonio Blakeney and Alex Owens, the Oak Ridge Pioneers can play with any high school team in the country.  Blakeney, a LSU commit, currently leads the state with 33.4 ppg (8th in the nation according to MaxPreps).  ESPN ranks him the 14th-best player in the nation in the senior class, while legendary color commentator Dick Vitale recently told The Times-Picayune that Blakeney, “has star written all over him.”  Owens could be the star of nearly any other high school team, as the Providence signee is ranked the 90th-best recruit in the nation by ESPN.

Lakeland may not have the same elite talent as some of the other teams in these marquee matchups, but they’re arguably the best team in the Bay Area, with two wins over Bartow, and notable wins over Dr. Phillips and Seminole.  Leading scorer Shaquan McArthur is their best shooter and has a knack for coming up big in key situations.  His buzzer-beating tip-in was the winning basket in the Dreadnaughts’ first win over Bartow this season.  Also keep an eye on sophomore J.J. Robinson.  A star WR who already has offers from Ohio State and Tennessee, he brings supreme athleticism and physicality to the basketball court.  Lakeland’s defensive intensity seems to make it difficult for teams to find any rhythm, but they’ll be challenged by Antonio Blakeney’s playmaking ability in the Mosaic Stinger Shootout’s final contest.
