Big players make big plays during big games.

Springstead’s Samantha Betters stepped up to the plate when her team needed her the most. The Eagles junior forward willed her team to their first district title in four years. Betters scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the 3A-7 championship game against Hudson with a 2-1 decision.

“I saw desire in her eyes,” Springstead coach Richard Gomez said. “I saw a desire to want to take that ball and put it in the back of the net. She did that with two minutes left in the game which was huge.”

Betters, who missed her sophomore campaign because of a torn ACL, is the team’s leading scorer on the team with 45 goals. Since returning to the pitch, she’s led not only with her legs but also her lingo.

“The passion, we definitely need passion,” Betters said. This team has a lot of heart and that’s gonna be something that can definitely drive us through.”
