Southeast senior wrestler Ricky Almodovar is putting together quite a resume for the Seminoles.

"He's got a perfect mix of toughness and speed," said first year Southeast wrestling coach Nick Balde.

"I got into it my freshman year after football season," said Almodovar, who wrestles in the 160-pound weight class.  "I was kinda looking to drop some weight and I fell in love with the sport and quit football."

It turned out to be the right choice.  Almodovar is the latest member of the Seminoles' 100-win club.

"The 100-win club, that was actually pretty amazing," said Almodovar.

After going 9-0 at the Southeast Duals, Ricky is only eight victories away from the all-time program win record of 115.

"When I first heard about them I wasn't really bothered about them that much," said Almodovar about the records. "All I was focused on was placing at states. Now it's a milestone that I want to get and then get to states."

One of if not the most important components of wrestling is making weight. Every wrestler has a crazy story about how they put up the right number on the scale and Ricky is no exception.

"An Epsom Salt bath," said Almodovar. "I basically soaked myself in saltwater to get all the water out of me."

Almodovar is obviously willing to do whatever it takes. This two-time state qualifier is working towards his ultimate goal of winning a state medal.
