A dominant defensive performance by Clearwater clinched the first playoff berth for the Tornadoes since 2004, as they defeated Largo 17-0 to stay unbeaten in 6A District 9.

The oldest rivalry in Pinellas County had more than just pride on the line, with huge playoff implications for both teams. After tonight's win, Clearwater (7-1, 4-0) will battle Osceola (6-2, 4-0) next week, as they look for their first district title since 2003. Meanwhile, the longest active playoff streak in the county comes to an end, as the Packers will miss the postseason for the first time since 2004.

Clearwater posted their second shutout of the season, and limited the Packers to just 88 rushing yards and 46 passing yards, while forcing three turnovers (including two interceptions from Jaquez Byrd). After a third-quarter Largo fumble, Garrison Bryant hooked up with Jacquez Jones for a 65-yd TD reception to give the Tornadoes a 9-0 lead. Jones finished the night with 125 receiving yards.

A late TD run from Adarius Lemons and a 2-point conversion play from Bryant to Brannan Demeter provided the final margin of victory.

Largo's defense held Lemons to just 54 rushing yards, his second-lowest single-game total of the season. Bobby Roundtree and Dakari Allen were top defensive performers.

The Packers (5-4, 2-2) close the season next week at home against Northeast. Osceola's win tonight over Boca Ciega set up the district championship showdown between the Tornadoes and the Warriors next week, in what will be the biggest game in the past decade at Jack White Stadium in Clearwater.
