The pool is Daniel Moore’s second home.

It’s where the Tampa Prep junior swimmer routinely finishes first.

“The water is like a second home to me now,” Moore said. “And I I do enjoy racing from time to time and I enjoy working hard. It keeps your mind off of things and it's a really good like release. And it's fun.”

Moore’s had a lot of fun this season, evident at the recent Tampa Bay Classic where he set a new record in the 50 free and swam a leg of the record-breaking 200 free relay.

“To be able to pop off some really good swims, sometimes that are competitive with the state, I always think that's a positive thing,” Tampa Prep swim coach Jason Bowes said.

Moore isn’t focused on times though. Those are merely results. He dissects each swim, rethinking every lap, every turn, every kick, trying to gain any edge he can.

That approach could result in serious podium time at state.

“One thing that we really try to promote is reaching your personal goal,” Bowes said. “If he continues to think that he wants to get better and is better, than great I want to try to help and encourage and foster that environment so he can reach that goal.”
