North Carolina freshman Destinee Walker has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after leading her team to a 4-0 record last week.
Walker, from Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, Fla., averaged a team-leading 19.3 points per game. She exploded for 32 points and 10 rebounds in a 94-58 win over Florida A&M to open a busy week for the Tar Heels. She not only recorded her first career double-double, but Walker’s 32 points tied for the second most points ever scored in a single game by a UNC freshman.

Walker scored in double figures in all four games, including 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting in a 64-52 win over Iona on Saturday.

She also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals in the four wins. She was 12-of-13 from the free throw line, including making all 10 attempts against FAMU.

For the season, Walker leads all ACC freshman in scoring at 17.0 points per game.

Carolina (4-2) hosts Pacific on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
