At a ceremony held this morning on the Shorecrest Preparatory School campus three seniors from the Charger’s Varsity Sailing Team signed letters of commitment to Stanford, Brown, and Yale.

Kathryn Booker heads to Stanford University to sail for the Cardinal this fall, Patrick Shanahan will sail for Brown University Bears and Nic Baird will sail for the Yale University Bulldogs.

“This unprecedented accomplishment represents the culmination of a lifelong commitment to their academics and the sport of sailing,” said Tripp Welborne, Shorecrest Athletic Director.

Shorecrest’s sailing team has already ticked off an impressive list of accomplishments this year. The Chargers won the Single-handed National Championships (Cressy Cup) in both full rig and radial rig Lasers and the inaugural National Championship in Keelboats.

After recently qualifying for Interscholastic Sailing Association’s SAISA District Championship to be held in St. Petersburg April 18 and 19, Shorecrest is vying for repeat appearances in the Fleet Racing (Mallory Cup) and Team Racing  (Baker Cup) National Championships in May. The Chargers carried the SAISA District Championships last year and finished 3rd at the 2014 Mallory Cup Nationals and 4th in the Baker Cup National Championship in Houston.
