There's nearly 12 months before National Signing Day 2016 arrives, but IMG Academy five-star cornerback Saivion Smith has already made his choice.

During a live telecast with ESPN on Tuesday, Smith announced a top five of LSU, Florida, Florida State, Clemson and Virginia Tech, then announced a surprise, which ended up being a commitment to LSU.

"I’m going to take my talents and play at the next level at Louisiana State University," Smith said on the live stream. "I'm 100 percent committed to LSU."

Smith, who formerly played for Boca Ciega and Lakewood before transferring to IMG prior to last season, is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in the country according to 247Sports.com. He's also ranked as the top player in Florida.

"After talking to the coaches, they said I can play corner and they want to start me out on the inside first at the nickel position to get me in the game early," Smith said. "They said they don't have a problem moving me out to corner."

LSU is known for producing top defensive back talent, including sending Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Caliborne and Laron Landry to the NFL.

Smith visited Baton Rouge, La. this weekend for LSU's junior day.

Last season, Smith recorded 67 tackles and five interceptions, which led the team. He also scored six touchdowns on defense and four on special teams.
