The Gibbs Gladiators ran into the brick wall that is Maverick Rowan.

The Cardinal Gibbons junior, one of the best shooting guards in the country, scored 34 points in the Chiefs 73-38 victory in the Class 5A state semifinals.

Cardinal Gibbons will play Tallahassee Rickards for the title LIVE on BHSN (Channel 47/HD 1147) Saturday at 10 a.m.

Rowan put on a show for the crowd that included Louisville coach Rick Pitino.

Gibbs was able to hang with the Chiefs early on. But then foul trouble became an issue for the Gladiators.

Gibbs leading scorer Barry Brown fouled out early in the third when he picked up his fourth followed by a technical. He finished the game with nine points.

Gibbs went down fighting – literally. Near the beginning of the fourth quarter, Gladiators junior Marquez Walls and Cardinal Gibbons senior Jose Morales got into a shoving match. Both players went to the bench after the incident.

Walls was the only player for Gibbs in double digits with 11.

With several of their top scorers on the bench in the fourth, Gibbs was held to only three fourth-quarter points.
