It takes the right ingredients to be a consistent winner—skilled athletes, strong coaching and a burning desire to win. The Land O’Lakes girls soccer has cooked up success over the last decade and it’s starting to rub off on other teams.

The Gators found the winning recipe this season by returning to the state championship for the first time since 2004. Land O’ Lakes was stopped short in its quest for the 5A title, falling to two-time defending champion Plantation American Heritage in overtime, 2-1.

The soccer team has set the bar high with 19 playoff appearances, 11 district titles and only one losing season since the program began in 1987 under head coach Vicky King. However, the girls basketball team wants a share of the spotlight after making its first ever trip to the Final Four.
