The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have re-signed cornerback Mike Jenkins.
Jenkins (5-10, 197) played in one game with Tampa Bay in 2014, before suffering a pectoral injury and being placed on Injured Reserve. In his seven-year career (2008-14), Jenkins has started 63-of-87 regular season games played, tallying 227 tackles, 49 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 10 interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown. Jenkins has started both postseason games he has played in, recording six passes defensed and one interception. He earned a Pro Bowl berth following the 2009 season.
The Bradenton native, who originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (25th overall) of the Dallas Cowboys in 2008, was a standout prep player at Southeast High School and an All-American at South Florida.
The team also announced that they have extended qualifying offers to a pair of exclusive rights free agents, linebacker Danny Lansanah and safety Bradley McDougald, with McDougald having already signed his offer sheet.
Lansanah started 11-of-16 games in 2014, totaling 79 tackles (third-most on the team), eight passes defensed, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three interceptions (second-most on the team) returned for 60 yards and two touchdowns. McDougald played in 15 games last season, including starting the final five, registering 46 tackles, seven passes defensed and one interception.
