On the eve of the American Athletic Conference Tournament, UCF guard Zykira Lewis was named as an All-Conference Second Team selection Thursday.

Lewis, who has ranked as the league’s top or second-leading scorer all season, was lauded for the second year in a row after being chosen as a unanimous selection to the league’s all-freshman team in 2013-14.

The Bartow, Florida, native has been a bright spot since her incredible season-opening performance when she netted 41 points on the strength of an 8-of-10 output from behind the arc. The conference recognized her days later as UCF’s first women’s basketball Player of the Week since the Knights joined the league.

Most recently, Lewis set the program record for 3-pointers in a season (84) and has already secured a spot for herself among UCF’s top-3 single-season scoring leaders with 555 points heading into the postseason.

Over the course of the year, she has recorded 20 points on 15 occasions and has led UCF in scoring in 20 of its 29 games this year.

The Knights’ next game will pit them against Cincinnati in the 8-9 matchup of the conference championship for the second year in a row. In last year’s tournament, guard Andrea Hines’ potential game-winning Hail Mary rimmed out at the buzzer, and UCF bowed out with a 54-52 loss to the 8-seeded Bearcats.

The Knights split the regular season this year with Cincinnati, capturing their first win in program history against the Bearcats nearly three weeks ago.

Friday’s game is set for 4 p.m. and will air on ESPN3. The winner will move on to face defending national champion UConn in Saturday’s quarterfinal at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
