Fresh off a Class 2A FHSAA Boys State Weightlifting Championship, Lakeland High School's Jacob Sundey has been named Bright House Sports Network's Athlete of the Week.

Sundey, who competed in the 183 lbs. weight division, competed against 18 other lifters, the most competitors he faced at a meet all season long. His combined score of 655 put him over the top for a first-place finish.

"The most I'd ever cleaned and jerked before that day was 295, but I knew I needed a 300 that day to win," said Sundey. "It was tough, but I pushed through."

Sundey also finished the day with a 355 bench press.

"He's one of the strongest kids I've ever known," said Lakeland Boys Weightlifting Coach Jeremy Bennett. "As soon as he gets on the platform, he's in a totally different world."
