The 6A Championship game was certainly made for prime time as Forest High School defeated Chamberlain in a high scoring cat and mouse contest.

It didn’t take more than a single inning to see the bats swirling Saturday evening inside Historic Dodgertown.

Forest(30-2) was first to get on the board after a wild pitch got past Chamberlain’s catcher Andi Kwilinski in the first.

In the bottom of the frame the Lady Chiefs(24-10) answered back when Jenna Brownell smashed one over the left center field wall for a two-run homer to go out in front, 2-1.

A defensive stand still ensued until the top of the fifth when the bats reignited for both teams.

First it was Wildcats Molly Shutters triple out to left field, that was miss-handled, to allow to runners to cross home.

Two batters later Forest pitcher Morgan White sent one over right center field to unload the bases and the Wildcats bench for a three run homer.

“It was crazy, constant hitting, they hit then we hit,” White said of the game. “No better game I’d say, it was just both teams going at it and we gave our fans their monies worth. “

Chamberlain wasn’t going to lay down, in fact the Chiefs capitalized on two infield errors and a big time hit by Reganne McCarl to knot things up at 6 before the fifth inning was over.

Infield defense by Forest sealed the program’s first state championship as the Wildcats infield turned a double play with runners in scoring position then senior catcher Caley Chappel made the last out to close the door on Chamberlain at the plate.

“I’m so proud of everyone and we are in it,” White added. “This is not over, this is the biggest win in school history. Our first time coming to states for softball and we just won it and we will be back.”

The replay of this 6A State Championship game will run Sunday May 10th at 11:30am on Bright House Sports Network Channel 1147.
