Jonah Scolaro attended his first state baseball tournament as an eighth grader.

He tagged along with his dad Donnie, an assistant coach with Durant High, when the Cougars advanced to the state tourney in 2013.

The second time, Scolaro was on the field and played a major role in helping the Cougars get to the final four for the second time in school history.

"We aim to come here. We don't aim for district championships," Scolaro said. "We aim here and its big, especially when you're a family. Once you come here one time, you can't settle for less, so you have to come back. Anything less than that, it's not enough."

The Cougars lost in the state semifinals to Oviedo, but Scolaro will remember the journey, especially his development on the mound where he posted a team-best 1.24 ERA and a 9-1 record. The journey was extra special since Scolaro shared it with his dad Donny, an assistant coach with Durant.

"It's been real special," Donny Scolaro said. "It becomes tough at times to separate and when they're pitching, obviously its a little more nerve racking. I couldn't ask for anything more. It's awesome. It's a great experience."
