Gino Norris once said, “Create your legacy by fulfilling your potential.” For the remaining Lakewood Ranch High School football team this proves true coming into a new season. The new season kicked off on Monday April 27th and ends on Friday May 22nd for their big Spring Game against the Booker High School Tornadoes. This game will take place home at The Ranch, wrapping up the year for the Mustangs.

The spring season is used to get an idea of who is fit to take on the roles of the graduating seniors and work as a team to build themselves up and get to the top. Offensive lineman, Kyle Mathis, says “I feel like we have some young people on the field but we have been working hard and making leaps and bounds.” Center, Alex Gold, explains his take on what spring football means to him and the future of the team “I think that spring season provides the opportunity for improvement on all the aspects of a team and our team has shown substantial productivity so far.” Players this season are optimistic about the potential for growth to carry on.

The seniors, sad to leave this behind, are looking forward to coming back in the future and seeing where the team has improved. Defensive lineman, Michael Guy, sums up the graduating players with his confidence in the future of this team saying, “We have a great coach and the transition has great potential and it’s a great program.” Corner, Craig Bain, shows his certainty saying, “They have the potential of being one of the best football teams Lakewood Ranch has ever seen.”

Spring Football is a tradition in Manatee County and around the state. Though the competition may be tough, the Mustangs are ready to play, and hopefully they can weather the storm and defeat Booker under the friday night lights at 7:30 at Lakewood Ranch High School.
