The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired left-handed-hitting first baseman/outfielder Marc Krauss from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Kyle Winkler. The Rays have optioned infielder Nick Franklin to Triple-A Durham, and Krauss will be selected to the major league roster for Friday’s game.
Krauss, 27, has spent parts of three seasons in the majors with the Angels (2015) and Houston Astros (2013-14), batting a combined .194 (69-for-355) with 11 home runs and 39 RBI. He has spent time at first base (39 games, 33 starts), left field (39 games, 31 starts), right field (14 games, 11 starts) and designated hitter (26 games, 22 starts). This May, he appeared in 11 games during a two-week stay with the Angels, and hit a home run off R.A. Dickey on May 21 at Toronto.
Apart from his stint with the Angels, he had spent the 2015 season with Triple-A Salt Lake, where he was batting .289 (46-for-159) with four home runs, 29 RBI, 35 walks, a .415 on-base pct. and .453 slugging pct. Over seven minor league seasons, he has compiled a .279 batting avg., .378 on-base pct., .477 slugging pct. and 82 home runs. Krauss is listed at 6-foot-2, 245 pounds. He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2009 June Draft out of Ohio University, where he earned a degree in journalism.
