Aubrey Hancock doesn’t lack confidence. She’s fearless.

Doubt it? Check her out as she flips her tiny frame over and over and over and over on the gymnastics floor. This tiny tumbler ‘s used to her world turning upside down.

The 10-year-old gymnast’s world literally turned upside down on June 16. That’s when her mother Emily came home to find her father Westley on the floor. He had been changing a ceiling fan and authorities believe he was electrocuted.

One week after his death, Aubrey competed in a tumbling event where she placed second in the nation. When her mom asked her if she felt like competing, Aubrey said she wanted to win for her dad.

“It was a little bit hard,” Aubrey said. “He would say, well, you can do it and stuff like that.”

Anyone who got their hair cut by Westley Hancock at Bruce’s Barber Shop in Plant City, the shop he named in honor of his grandfather, learned quickly that he loved the Bucs, he loved fishing and he loved FSU. Known as The Mayor in Plant City, the popular barber was the go-to guy for haircuts and the latest gossip. He’d also sprinkle in his gymnastics knowledge, showing off videos of Aubrey, his mini me.

Aubrey got into gymnastics three years ago and has developed into one of the top tumblers through her training at Elite World Gymnastics in Lakeland. Her dad built a valance in her bedroom to house all her medals. Aubrey’s aunt Lauren Haught said there are so many medals on the valance it is bowing in the middle.

She added two more to her collection at the event the week after her dad died and foresees a future with gymnastics in it.

“When I get ready to go to college, I want to get the scholarship,” Aubrey said. “And they give you a scholarship for the college of your choice.”

What college would she like to attend ? FSU, of course.

Her dad would be so proud.
