Abby Zimroth plays big in big moments.

And it didn't get any bigger than Tampa Catholic's five-set thriller over Academy of the Holy Names. Zimroth posted 16 kills, including several in the final set to help the Crusaders dig out of a 12-9 hole.

“It was crazy, I was just full of emotion. It was awesome," Zimroth said. "I was just trying to play consistent, I know that I know that Academy has really solid players, they have smart players.

"I was just trying to look for spots on the court, trying to put the ball where they’re not."

That's what sets Zimroth apart. She's not only a big hitter, she's a big brain.

“I've definitely become a smarter player," she said. "I'm not trying to just go up for a kill every single time. I'm not the tallest player so I'm just trying to put the ball in spots.”

“Abby is everything a coach could want and more," Tampa Catholic volleyball coach Morgan Toney said. "And I think that's due to the fact that she has such a great upbringing with her parents. One thing I think makes her such a good player though is that she is always trying to involve her game. She's adding tricks to her repertoire."

Zimroth hopes those tricks open some college coaches eyes.

"Right now, I'm just trying to get looked at," Zimroth said. "I really do want to play in college, so we'll see where that goes."
