Merritt Island’s gym proved to be a formidable place to play once again as they defeated Lake Nona three games to one on the BHSN Game of the Week.

The Mustangs pulled out to a 2-0 lead over the Lions behind strong play from junior Alyssa Zwolensky (16 kills) and freshman Lexi Denaburg (17 kills).

In the third set, South Carolina commit Mikayla Shields (10 kills) took over for Lake Nona and led the Lions to a 26-24 win after jumping out to a 9-3 lead early.

During the third set timeout, the Mustangs refocused and jumped out to a 10-3 lead on the serving of senior Abby Shaffer (5 aces) and never looked back cruising to a 25-22 victory.

The win moves Merritt Island to 6-0 on the season while it drops Lake Nona to 1-3 in this young season.
