UCF men’s basketball suffered a heartbreaking loss to Temple Saturday afternoon, having a last-second shot to force overtime waved off following a video review showed the bucket came a tenth of a second after time expired.

With 12.3 seconds remaining, Daiquan Walker drove hard to the basket to draw a pair of defenders before kicking the ball out to A.J. Davis for a three. Davis’ shot bounced off the front of the rim but was corralled by Shaheed Davis, who threw up a shot from behind the arc with four seconds on the clock. The senior’s heave ricocheted off the front of the rim where A.J. waited for the tip at the horn, pushing the game to overtime.

But after a video review, the officials waved off Davis’ heroic bucket, which came a tenth of a second after time expired, giving Temple the 62-60 victory.

The Knights were sluggish to start the game, allowing Temple to grab a 10-5 lead, but the substitution of Tacko Fall ignited the Black & Gold for a 10-0 run. The freshman center tallied four points during the one minute 31 second spurt, while Matt Williams and Tanksley Efianayi each connected on three pointers.

At the under eight media timeout, the Owls caught fire on offense, utilizing an 11-0 run to grab an eight-point lead by the under four media timeout.

Out of the stoppage, the Knights reeled TU back in with a 6-0 run, which began with a Walker behind-the-back pass to Efianayi for a layup.

The two AAC foes entered the locker rooms with Temple leading 36-32 at the break.

In the second half, UCF’s defense got them back in the game, allowing the Knights to grab the lead with 11:48 remaining following a Williams three pointer. The redshirt junior’s three sparked a Black & Gold 11-2 run, extending UCF’s lead to four with 9:32 left in the game.

With 1:46 remaining, Temple had regained a three-point lead, but a pair of Efianayi free throws brought it to one with just over a minute to play.

TU’s Devin Coleman sank 1-of-2 free throws with 18 seconds left, giving the Owls a two-point lead, which then led to the scramble and heartbreak for UCF at the end of the game.
