With the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) opener on the horizon, Orlando Pride has signed 2016 NWSL College Draft pick Dani Weatherholt. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not announced.

“Dani has impressed us from Day One and she continues to improve each day,” said Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni. “She’s a versatile midfielder who can also drop into a defense spot adding to the depth of our roster, which will be key this season.”

Selected with the Pride’s third pick (No. 31 overall), Weatherholt excelled in the midfield at Santa Clara University appearing in a total of 86 games. Over the course of her collegiate career, the 22-year-old recorded 10 goals including three game-winners. In her senior season, the 5-foot-8 West Coast native started all 22 games as a Bronco notching three goals and two assists. As a freshman and sophomore, Weatherholt also helped Santa Clara advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
For her outstanding collegiate performance, the midfielder earned numerous honors while at Santa Clara including Third Team All-West Region, First Team All-WCC, and NSCAA Scholar Second Team All-West Region honors as a senior.
