The good folks of the Seminole County Natural Lands program host a guided mud walk twice each year. On the trail you'll experience a beautiful hydric hammock and learn about all the animals and plants that live in that ecosystem. Trek through the thick black mud and explore in this unique experience.

Since the 1970s, Seminole County 5th graders have walk this trail as a rite of passage. On their school outing they are out there to not only have fun but to learn about Florida's wetlands by examining the flora and fauna of various habitats. They learn to identify paw prints of armadillos, bears, bobcats and raccoons. They study trees along the trails and count the rings. They take a half-mile hike to a stream, where they collect dragonfly nymphs and other aquatic life.

During any given school year, anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 students take part in this awesome educational experience.

Mud walks open to the general public are by registration only and space is limited. To find out more about the mud walk including upcoming dates and times just give the Natural Land folks a call at (407) 349-0959.
