The strength of the Florida Gators offensive line for the upcoming season will rely heavily on the health and play of Martez Ivey.

Today at the SEC spring meetings head coach Jim McElwain told reporters the sophomore is cleared for contact. Currently the Gators are in their strength and conditioning portion of the off-season but the news is a welcome one for when fall camp begins.

The Apopka high school standout had surgery on his shoulder following the season but McElwain says he is healing well.

Ivey missed the first two games of his freshman campaign with a knee injury and later finished the season playing with his hurt shoulder.

The athletic lineman played guard last year but can also slide outside to tackle. Coach McElwain told the media at last week’s Gator Gathering he’s excited over the progress of his potential starter.

“I know this he looked great the other night when we did a team bowling event,” McElwain said in Orlando last week. “That son of a gun can throw a bowling ball really hard. And I saw no injury from him or Alex Anzalone with their shoulders with the way they were throwing them down the alley.” “Everything’s been good so he’ll be ready to go,” the head coach added.
