Over 300 high school players weathered the thunder, lightning, and heavy rain to participate in the Sound Mind, Sound Body (SMSB) football camp that took place at Jefferson High School on Sunday.  Participants still took advantage of camp offerings that included a unique focus on more of the student side of being a “student-athlete”.

Guy Troupe, a former NFL Senior Director of Player Development and current SMSB Staff Member, said “the camp’s focus on a health and safety curriculum is to help players understand the importance of it (athletics)".

Hillsborough High School Senior Defensive End Zach Carter has attended the camp for the last two years and said it has helped him develop leadership skills he believes will be critical in helping the Terriers defense improve.

In addition to the many coaches who were in attendance from college programs around the country, the University of South Florida was well represented at the camp.  Bulls’ Quarterbacks Coach Shaun King said one of the reasons he participated in the camp was “to teach players the proper technique, teach players the fundamentals”.  Players advancing their technique will be critical to improved play as Florida prepares to establish its first restrictions on full-contact practices for high school football players.
