OMAHA, Neb. -- Three runs in two games doesn't get you much at the College World Series except a trip back home.

That was the Gators' fate on Tuesday as they lost 3-2 to Texas Tech in an elimination game.

Florida (52-16) managed only 13 hits and three runs in losses to Coastal Carolina and Texas Tech. Two of those runs came in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday when Pete Alonso hit a mammoth two-run homer that upped the drama.

However, after JJ Schwarz struck out and Michael Rivera popped out, the game ended when Jonathan India was thrown out at second trying to stretch a single into a double.

Until the ninth, the Gators had only three hits and no runs as Texas Tech starter Davis Martin pitched seven shutout innings.

"We had some opportunities but their kid on the mound made some pitches when he had too,'' Gators coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "We're all disappointed right now, but the fact of the matter is, we had a hell of a year."

The No. 1 overall national seed, the Gators' quick exit from the CWS is reminiscent of the 2012 team. The Gators were also the No. 1 seed that year but were swept in Omaha.
