University of South Florida Head Coach Willie Taggart said on Tuesday that redshirt freshman Brett Kean has been named as the No. 2 quarterback behind junior Quinton Flowers.  But, there’s no battle for No. 1 or No. 2 at the tight end position.

Taggart said there’s only competition between veteran tight end Elkanah Dillon and redshirt freshman tight end Mitchell Wilcox to see who’ll be the better blocker.

“Both of those guys have really stepped up and probably have more than five catches in our scrimmage games" Taggart said.  "They help our offense that much more when they can be effective in the pass game and the run game.”

Impacting the running game is something Wilcox prides himself on and something he says Tight Ends Coach David Reeves is big on.  A former Tarpon Springs High School standout, Wilcox said he’s also focused on picking up his speed.

“The main thing is perimeter blocking and setting the stage outside" Wilcox said.  "And, I definitely had to work on some speed drills to maintain the same speed.”

The Bulls have a deep receiving corps, but both Dillon and Wilcox said they are confident Coach Taggart’s scheme will get them their touches.
