Coach Jon Gruden has a special place in his heart for high school football.

And he doesn't mind reaching into his organization Fired Football Coaches Association's pockets to help make a difference. One local high school team is reaping the rewards of Gruden's generosity.

For the second-straight year, Gruden is throwing his support behind the Clearwater high football team. The Tornadoes were treated to a party at the original Hooter's in Clearwater where player feasted on wings, got one-on-one time with the former Tampa Bay Bucs coach and the program got some much needed funds.

"It's important that we continue to raise awareness about the reality of where high school football is," Gruden said. "People are killing the budget. They're trying to ruin the game and I'm not going to let that happen as long I'm alive."

The Monday Night Football analyst also honored two members of the Clearwater Police Department with his signature Gruden's Grinder awards. The coach acknowledged first responders have taken a beating this summer and wanted to shine a spotlight on their service and commitment to the community. They received a cash reward and a free night at the beach.

"Knowing what's been going on in the world today and Clearwater Police Department has always tried to bring our community involved, along with police officers and the kids in schools and everyone in the community," detective Shannon Kasparek said. "So today is a good day for everyone around."

A great day, especially for those who love high school football.

"It means a lot," Clearwater senior cornerback Jatavious Byrd said. "It's very special that we got somebody famous like him looking out for us and getting noticed is humbling and good."

"I want to take interest in young people," Gruden added. "I have three boys of my own. I realized it's getting tougher and tougher out there for these high school coaches and our high school teachers and public education in general. If we can created some awareness for anybody that's listening to give back to their local sports programs, I'd sure appreciate it."
