Malik Davis surpassed the 5000-yd rushing mark in his career and a dominant defensive performance in the second half led the Jesuit Tigers to a 44-23 win over Jefferson in the district opener for both teams.

After allowing the Dragons 268 total yards in the first half, Jesuit's defense limited Jefferson to -8 rushing yards in the second half and 100 passing yards, while forcing two Cade Weldon interceptions. The Tigers outscored Jefferson 21-0 in the second half.

Davis now stands at 5,040 rushing yards, just 725 yards shy of former Sickles standout Ray-Ray McCloud's career rushing mark for Hillsborough County of 5,765 yards. He was limited to 51 rushing yards in the first half but finished the night with 156 yards, including 60-yd, 13-yd and 4-yd TD runs in the second half. Daniel Boon connected on two long TD passes in the first half - 53 yards to Travell Harris and 55 yards to Larry Hodges - and earned Player of the Game honors with 130 passing yards and 55 rushing yards.

Weldon, a Miami commit, is known as a pro-style QB prospect, but showed off his legs with 101 rushing yards in the first half and two rushing TD. He also completed passes to eight different receivers for 254 yards, including a TD pass to Tyrese Spain.

Jefferson (1-2) has a bye before continuing district play vs. Spoto on September 30. Jesuit (3-0) looks to extend their regular season win streak to 16 games next week when they host Pasco.
