Any Liberty High School football game you went to this season, you could expect to hear Markenzy Pierre’s name called out in a touchdown celebration.

“They knew I was getting the ball and I liked that they couldn’t do anything about it,” said Pierre. “They were calling the plays even and they just physically couldn’t do anything about it.”

One of our pre-season Top 20 picks, Markenzy came into the season with a goal of 2,000 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. He surpassed even that with 2,554 yards and 31 touchdowns to his name.

“I had it all planned out. I had a little game plan that I had to get this amount of yards this game, and that was just the goal.”

In a county that has been playing football for nearly 100 years, Markenzy’s season total is second all-time. The only player with more is county legend Willie Green who rushed for 2,664 yards, leading Osceola to the 1998 state championship.

As Markenzy’s football coach Cory Johns puts it,  “2,500 yard backs don’t happen every day.”

Pierre went out with a bang in his senior season, with 862 yards and 10 touchdowns in his last two games.

“It was more like a video game then real life. Watching him, it was sometimes fun for me to just watch,” joked Coach Johns.

Signing with Syracuse, Markenzy’s goals are as lofty as ever.

“My goals now for college? I want to win the Heisman, I want to be one of the best running backs there ever was,” said Pierre.

His dreams may sound out there, but one thing is guaranteed, he’ll work every day in hopes of achieving them.

“I just need to remember what it took to get those numbers, what it took to make those records happen and it is all about the hard work and dedication. So that needs to translate to the next level so I can have the same results.”

Anything is possible for the kid who puts up video game stats.
