Plant City dual-threat quarterback Corey King is headed to FSU.

Just not the one you are thinking of.

Not Noles.

Bulldogs.

The Ferris State University Bulldogs in Michigan.

"It's Division II," said King.  "It's big time division two."

Big time is right.  Ferris State made it to the NCAA DII National Semifinals in 2016.

After interest from FBS schools like FIU, Toledo, Idaho, South Alabama and Eastern Kentucky fell through, King feels he's found his crown.

"I just like the culture," said King about Ferris State's program.  "I like the brotherhood that's up there.  The environment that's up there.  They have a winning program and their head coach (Tony Annese) loves me. All the coaches love me, so I felt like I was at home."

"He does a lot of things well,": said Plant City head coach Robert Paxia. "So for him it's gonna depend on how he goes in a picks up the playbook."

That playbook won't be the only priority.  The two-star signal caller is currently an A/B student and will continue to focus on academics."

"Basically, I 'm just going to college," said King.  "I'm really focused on being able to get my education.  Football's gonna be over one day."

But a degree lasts forever.

Upon graduating he would be the first in his family with a four-year college degree. He wants to study sports management or broadcast journalism.

"A degree is more than just a piece of paper," said King.  "When you have a degree you can be able to do anything that you want."

"Anytime you can have the opportunity to be the first person in your family to do something, it's a big deal," said Paxia.

"School is first," said King.  "I want to achieve that goal first because if I don't have the grades I won't be able to play football."

Academics in front of football, regardless of the division.
