When you’re one of the best in the nation, ego can take over. Not Richard Gouraige.

The Cambridge Christian senior football player seems almost embarrassed by his successes.

“He doesn’t hardly speak about it, bring it up, he keeps to himself about it," Cambridge teammate Andrew Cunningham said.

And throughout his journey, where there have been many successes, he’s learned a lot about himself.

“Self confidence, always be humble, be grateful for what I have,” Gouraige said.

Thanks to his football and academic skills, Gouraige has a lot to be grateful for. The latest? His selection to the Under Armour All-American Game. He’ll play with the top players in the nation and his Cambridge teammates can attest, Gouraige will make his presence known.

“When Richard’s out there, he just makes the whole team just elevate to a whole new level," Cunningham said. "Richard’s a great teammate and he just pushes all of us and we just become a better team with Richard.”

Clemson or Florida will become better teams with Gouraige. Those are his final two college choices. His football journey will continue with either the Tigers or the Gators.

“The journey is not going to stop any time soon," Gouraige said. "It’s a stepping stone of finally one accomplishment I got down. I’m just shocked really.”

Eventually, Gouraige will just have to accept that he’s really that good.
