The six-time state champion Bishop Moore Hornets' quest for a "three-peat" ended in five sets at the hands of the youthful Ponte Vedra Sharks volleyball team. The Sharks took home the 2017 FHSAA Class 6A state title after winning 3-2 in front of a raucous crowd at the UNF Arena in Jacksonville on Saturday.

Ponte Vedra won 26-24, 13-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-11.

It was revenge for the Sharks who were defeated by the Hornets in straight sets in last season's 6A state final, which was held in Ocala.

Florida-signee Marlie Monserez led the Hornets with 24 kills and 9 digs in her last match of her illustrious high school career.

Wofford College-commit Claire Meier added 12 kills, 10 digs and 5 blocks for Bishop Moore.

Head coach Tanya Jarvis-Starrett and her Hornets were seeking their fifth state title in the past six seasons and seventh overall in school history.  Jarvis-Starrett won two titles as a Bishop Moore player.

Ponte Vedra's dynamic junior outside hitters Gabby Keller and Paige Johnson led the 6A champs with 10 kills each.

The Sharks, who have only two seniors on their roster, have been to the state Final Four three-straight seasons.

Bishop Moore finishes its 2017 campaign with a 23-8 record while the 6A champion Sharks finished their season at 25-5.
