Through the first eight innings of a key district matchup between No. 10 Palm Harbor University and Newsome, the two teams combined for just four runs.

Then Palm Harbor exploded for six runs in the top of the 9th inning to take down the Wolves 8-2 and cement their hold on first place in 9A District 8.

Kimberly Singer led off the game-winning rally with a single before Bailey Wilson reached on a fielder's choice and Jada Radecki singled to load the bases.  Florida-commit Mia Buffano worked a bases-loaded walk to score the game-winning run.  Then the Hurricane bats really got hot, with an RBI single from Taylor Scott, a two-run double from Katherine Gunter and a two-run triple from Makenna Utegaard.

Savanna Bennett, who had relieved Scott in the 7th inning, recorded a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth on four pitches to clinch the win.  Scott allowed just three hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings while striking out five.

Top performances for the Wolves came from Maggie Trgo (3-4, RBI, run) and Mary Beth Feldman (6 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 11 K).

Palm Harbor U. (11-1) improves to 3-0 in district play with just three district games left.  They host their spring tournament this weekend, which they start by facing Plant.  Newsome falls to 5-5 and 1-2 in the district and will look to rebound at PHU's tournament on Friday vs. Pinellas Park.
