Florida’s State Tennis Champions decided Thursday in Central Florida for the 4A and 2A classifications.

Both groups playing at three different tennis courts in Central Florida with plenty of locals duking it out for a state championship.

In an all Central Florida final, reigning 4A champ Alanna Wolfberg of Timber Creek went up against Apopka freshman Jaleesa Leslie and it was Wolfberg who won handily 6-0, 6-1.

Wolfberg then joined teammate Candace Carmouche – the duo came up just short of the title last year, but proved second time is the charm. Carmouche had the power serve while Wolfberg agility efforts were displayed all over the court, as the duo played perfectly taking gold in a tiebreaker.

“We lost in a tiebreaker last year so let me tell you how good this one feels to win. It feels amazing, we are on a high right now,” said Alanna Wolfberg.

Riverview High School's Antoine Sanchez’s match was a thriller of the 4A final – the senior just squeaking out the victory in the second set to earn his first state championship.

The Stetson commit then partnered with junior Finn Anderson for a steady drubbing of the Coral Gables squad, sweeping the 4A individual doubles championships.

“There is no more of a perfect way to end it actually, I didn’t lose a single match all season,” said Antoine Sanchez.

And for the 4A team title, the boys of Wiregrass Ranch fell short after falling behind in doubles play. It was their 5th straight year competing at states, and previously claimed the 2014 and 15 state crowns.

Down in 2A, the girls individual championship was on the line, Satellite Beach freshman Anique Kattenberg advanced from the middle of the bracket before being downed in the finals by the number one seed. Kattenberg finishes the season with just the one loss, runner up at states.

The Montverde boys were looking for revenge against Gulliver Prep for the 2A team title after finishing the runner-up one year ago.

The Eagles swept doubles play, making singles play a lot less stressful as they needed just two wins to take gold and they did just that to clinch the programs first tennis state championship.

“It was awesome, last year we were all sad but we were ready to go for next year and we got revenge so it’s the best feeling ever,” said senior Kyle Frankel.

And the ladies of Atlantic High School were fighting for a team title for the first time in school history. The Sharks had two time state singles winner Kristina Zieglar and fellow doubles champion and little sister Lindsey leading the way, but ultimately the Sharks fell just short and finished as the 2A state runner up to American Heritage Delray.
