Just a sophomore, Alana Wolfberg has never been bested in singles, your two time 4A State Individuals Champion.

“Everything I could have asked for and more, and more. It was amazing,” said Alana immediately after her singles championship.

But victory this year was even sweeter as Alana also took the doubles title with teammate and fellow sophomore Candace Carmouche. Alana and Candace coming from behind, losing the first set and forcing the tiebreaker with a win in the second.

This, just one year after losing the doubles championship in the same fashion.

“It means so much more this year especially because of doubles,” said Alana. “Winning in that tiebreaker was revenge from last year and every time you win, it just gets better and better and the feeling never stops.”

“I’m like speechless because we were down the first set,” said Candace. “We came back and the tiebreaker was tight and we lost last year in a tiebreaker so there is like no words.”

The finals day of the 4A Tennis championships saw Alana on the court for well over six hours of play, en route to her double gold. And if you think she’d be resting immediately after the hours on the court, think again. Wolfberg is a two-sport athlete and ran to the coast immediately after to compete with her team in the 4 x 4 relay at track regionals.

“Busy times in front of me, but high school only happens once,” joked Alana.

Add in a promposal as she stepped off the court after doubles, and the day couldn’t have been any better for Alana. “It was very cute. It said it would be sweet if you went to prom with me, yes or no, with lots of sweet cupcakes.”

One pretty sweet day is in the books. But now, it’s time to focus on doing it all over again.

“We’ll be back next year, for sure. Repeat.”
