Land O'Lakes wants to make it a habit to end their season in Historic Dodgertown for the state softball championships.

And they'd like to end it with a state championship. Make that more state championships.

The Gators came from behind in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs , to win the Class 6A state championship, the first in school history. They did so in dramatic fashion, upsetting defending champs American Heritage, the team that knocked them out of the state semis last year, for the title.

A pair of American Heritage errors in the sixth led to Land O'Lakes claiming the lead 2-1. Tia Williams added the another run with an RBI single.

On the mound, Gators' pitcher Callie Turner, a Univeristy of Tennessee commit, gave up just one run off five hits and struck out eight.

Early on, Land O'Lakes had plenty of opportunities.

Williams got the first hit for the Gators to help put runners on first and second in the bottom of the first, but they were left stranded.

A questionable call in the second led to bases loaded for American Heritage. With two outs, Gators first baseman Shelby Westbrook thought she had gotten the third out on a routine grounder. She ran toward third base and threw the ball onto the field heading for the dugout. But the Patriots runner had been ruled safe.

Land O'Lakes pitcher Callie Turner got the Gators out of the bases-loaded jam with a strikeout to end the threat.

American Heritage threatened again in the third when they reached second on a throwing error, then stole third. But the Gators were able to close out the inning with a strike out by Turner, her fifth through three innings, and a great catch by short stop Williams.

Williams reached base again with two outs in the bottom of the third, followed by Brianna Lindner's walk. But Land O'Lakes failed to produce a run. The Gators short stop reached second on a fielding error in the fifth, but once again, she was left stranded.
