The Spectrum Sports Breakfast of Champions series concluded at Mission Inn Resort and Club on Tuesday morning honoring the area’s top prep athletes from Sumter and Lake Counties.

Grab a plate because the food and crowd was quite appetizing-- as there were state champions, school record holders and big Division 1 commits on hand.

Among the group of honorees were Gatorade and Florida Dairy Farmer’s Volleyball Player of the Year Stephanie Samedy.

“It was a great experience to cap off my senior year and go out with a nice medal and get represented for the last time before I go up to Minnesota,” East Ridge OH Stephanie Samedy explained.

As for 3-star defensive end Carson Wells—the South Sumter valedictorian topped off his stellar senior year with the Defensive Football player of the year award.

“Most of these kids I’ve played with or seen around so it’s definitely cool to know that I am among them,” Wells said of getting honored. “It’s definitely surreal –I’ve worked my whole life for this. I leave in three weeks to go to Colorado –it’s an exciting time.”

And a State Champion coach in Leesburg’s Sean Campbell was named the Coach of the Year after guiding his Yellow Jackets to the program’s third basketball crown.

“We just put in so much work this year to win and when we finally did it was just an amazing feeling,” Campbell said of the run. “To get the reward—what we talk about –rewards are team accomplishments for all the work we put in and so it’s amazing.”

A total of 28 student athletes and coaches were honored in Lake and Sumter Counties. This event capped off the 2017 Spectrum Sports Breakfast of Champions series that made six stops highlighting the area’s best athletes in eight surrounding Central Florida counties.
