Seven innings wasn't enough to decide a district title between St. Petersburg and East Lake in the 8A-7 championship game.

Senior Seth Caballes came through with a clutch 2-out single in the bottom of the 9th to score Blake Amicone, giving the Eagles their first district championship since 2013.

East Lake scored first on an RBI single by FAU commit Jakob Sessa in the bottom of the 1st.  St. Petersburg quickly came back, notching two runs in the top of the second, on an RBI single from Hunter Booth and a walk to Kyle Kramer that forced in a run.

A RBI single from Amicone in the bottom of the second quickly retied the game, but from there it was a pitcher's duel between Green Devils senior Keegan Galloway (Johnson University commit) and freshman Cooper Nelson.

Galloway (3-4) went 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.  Nelson stole the show though, pitching 7.1 innings in relief of JonJon Kostantis.  The Green Devils managed just two hits off of Nelson, who struck out nine.

It was the second straight year that East Lake went to extra innings in the district championship, but the result was much more favorable this year, after last year's loss to rival Countryside.  The Eagles (21-5) were ranked 3rd in 8A in the most recent state poll, and after winning their first district title since 2013, they will begin their state title pursuit next week by hosting Lakewood Ranch.

The Green Devils (15-10) will travel to Sarasota in a 8A Region 2 Quarterfinal.  It's St. Petersburg's first playoff appearance since 2014.
