The Tampa Bay Rays shipped infielder Tim Beckham to Baltimore at the trade deadline on Monday for a minor league pitcher from Winter Haven. The move bolsters the Orioles' injury-depleted infield.

Beckham was batting .259 in 87 games with the Rays. He's played second base, third and shortstop.

Beckham was the first player chosen in the 2008 amateur draft. He's under contract until 2021.

The Orioles need a backup because shortstop J.J. Hardy and utility infielder Ryan Flaherty are on the disabled list.

Tampa Bay received right-hander Tobias Myers in the deal. Myers, 18, was a sixth-round pick by the Orioles in 2016. He went to Winter Haven High School.
