No. 6-- OSCEOLA KOWBOYS

2016: 10-1, 8A-7 District Champion

Head Coach: Doug Nichols, 75-17 record in eight seasons

Key Returners: DT Dion Bergan, DB Quavon Brown (37 total tkls, 4 INTs), RB Malcolm Davidson (1,064 rushing yards, 13 total TD’s), DT Boris Espinosa, QB Braxton Jones (393 passing yards, 577 rushing yards, 14 total TD’s), DE Mario Kendricks, LB Connor Parker (58 total tkls), RB Da’Nas Pinellas, RB Tayquan Pinellas, DL Jordan Redmond (46 total tkls, 9 TFLs, 7.5 sacks), LB Trey Shine (61 total tkls, 2 INTs)

The Scoop: After an undefeated regular season in 2016, the Kowboys were upset in the first round by Treasure Coast after two straight appearances in the state finals. This year Osceola will rely on a backfield that features third-year starting QB Braxton Jones, second year starters Tayquan and Da’Nas Pinellas and 2016’s leading rusher Malcolm Davidson. The Kowboys defense will be anchored by all five returning defensive lineman including last season’s sack leader Jordan Redmond. Osceola will face teams that made last season’s playoffs in six of their eleven games, including Dr. Phillips, the 8A State Runner-Up, in the preseason kickoff classic.

Quotable: “I was texting Riley Nicholson, Carlos Becker all those guys [and checking in] ‘How’s camp going’ staying in touch with those guys. And you know they’ve given it back to these guys and saying ‘You kinda let us down. We kinda set the stage on that stuff (making it to states) running off 12-13 wins you guys go and throw up an air ball first round of the playoffs’ –they are not afraid to call them out.”—Doug Nichols, Osceola Head Coach
