The Carolina Hurricanes scored two power play goals to hand the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 loss in their preseason opener at Amalie Arena on Tuesday night.

Justin Williams and Teuvo Teravainen both beat Lightning goaltender Michael Leighton, who stopped 20 of 22 shots on the night.

Lightning forward Adam Erne cut the deficit to one on a power-play goal of his own in the 2nd period to make it 2-1.

A would-be, game-tying goal by Alexander Volkov was waived off late in the 3rd period due to goalie interference.

Both teams will face-off again on Wednesday night in Carolina.
