In one of the most highly anticipated games in Pinellas County, the Pinellas Park Patriots top the No. 7 St. Petersburg Green Devils 31-14 on the Patriots' home field in Largo.

The Patriots (4-1) did what they do best - run the football.  Led by Spectrum Sports Player of the Game Lawrence Toafili, the Patriots rushed for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Toafili rushed 18 times for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Ethan Blanchard carried 17 times for 109 yards and a touchdown.  5’8” Derek Bryant rushed for 50 yards and a 6-yard touchdown run.

Pinellas Park ran 55 plays with 54 of them being running plays.  The Patriots also scored on all 2nd half offensive possessions (TD, TD, TD, FG) excluding its final drive in victory formation.

The Green Devils (3-1) entered the game without University of Florida commit Jalynn Williams – out with an ankle injury.  Early in the first quarter, the injury news got worse as star CB/WR and Iowa State University commit Anthony Johnson, Jr. exited the game with an apparent right leg injury.

Without Williams and Johnson, Jr., quarterback Tonio Shavers kept St. Petersburg competitive throughout.  After throwing only 16 passes in 3 games prior, Shavers finished 11-23 for 108 yards and a 16-yard TD pass to Bryce Green.  The Green Devils were provided another score by DeShawn Brown’s 43-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Now 4-1, Pinellas Park hits the road for a tough matchup against Lakewood Friday, October 6th.

After suffering its first loss, the Green Devils will host Boca Ciega Monday.
