The Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders made it all the way to the Class 3A state championship game last year. But midway through the season, they were in desperate need of an offensive identity.

That’s when quarterback Jeff Smith emerged as an offensive threat in the Marauders victory against Trinity Catholic.

This year against the Celtics, Smith accounted for 510 yards (397 passing, 113 rushing) and five touchdowns, putting an exclamation point on his status as one of the area’s elite players.

His effort earned his BHSN Athlete of the Week honors.

"He's been absolutely phenomenal, so he really didn't do anything more against Trinity Catholic last week in Ocala than he has against the other teams," head coach John Davis said. "He's been absolutely phenomenal all year. If there is somebody in the state of Florida playing better than Jeff Smith, I want to see it cause right now, I don't believe it."
