East Ridge head football coach Ashour Peera resigned on Wednesday, effective immediately, according to a Lake County School District press release. Peera has been under investigation since he was suspended on July 26 amid allegations that he was recruiting players from other Lake County Schools.

Two players from the Central Florida area said that Peera had contacted them via direct message on Twitter about transferring to East Ridge during the summer, according to the Leesburg Daily Commercial. Contacting players from other schools or directly recruiting them is a violation of FHSAA regulations even with the new open enrollment guidelines implemented this year.

Former offensive coordinator Jason Robinson has been named interim head football coach for the remainder of the 2017-18 season, which starts on Friday as the Knights host Evans in a pre-season game. Peera had a record of 13-18 in three seasons for the Knights and led them to the playoffs in 2015.
