The Trump administration is working toward repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

  • USF Affordable Care Act signup event
  • Obamacare signup event at the University of South Florida Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • President Trump signed an executive action loosening the government's priorities for the ACA

But despite that action, people continue to sign up for Obamacare ahead of the Jan. 31 deadline.

And, there will be an Obamacare signup event at the University of South Florida Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to enrollment officials, more than 1.6 million Floridians have signed up so far this open enrollment cycle. About 89 percent of Floridians who signed up for coverage will receive tax credits that lower their premiums by an average of $323 per month, officials said.

On his first day in office, President  Donald Trump signed an executive action loosening the government's priorities for the ACA. That action means insurance companies will not be tied down to the health care law.

However, until it is repealed, it remains law, which makes for a confusing time for customers.

Obamacare navigators will help people try to navigate the complex process today at USF.

Meanwhile, lawmakers in Washington are debating the political side of the law more than changes to it.

"We'd be foolish not to say that if we can make it better we'll support it," Democratic Congressman Steny Hoyer said Monday during meetings in Washington. "The problem is most of the things we've seen will make it worse, less assurance for people, less access to affordable quality healthcare, more opportunity to have serious illnesses devastate them economically."

Until those issues are worked out, potential Obamacare signees have to weigh whether to avoid insurance and risk paying a penalty or buy coverage that may not exist later this year.
