A Florida legislator and Polk County Republican is resigning to take a job with the Trump administration.

  • Rep. Neil Combee will step down Nov. 24
  • Calls his time in Florida legislature 'honor of a lifetime'
  • Combee is taking position with U.S. Department of Agriculture

Rep. Neil Combee this week sent a letter to Richard Corcoran, the Florida Speaker of the House, and said he would resign effective Friday, Nov. 24. He is taking a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.

In the letter, he called his legislative post the "honor of a lifetime" to serve in his post.

Combee's 39th District includes northern Polk County and parts of northwestern Osceola County, areas where he has served since 2012.

Combee is another in a long line of departures from the Florida Legislature between elections. Several resignations have been prompted by scandals, but a handful of legislators have decided to step down mid-term.

Last month the White House nominated Rep. Carlos Trujillo to become ambassador to the Organization of the American States.

The House budget chairman said he does not plan to resign from the Florida House until after he is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
