Bay Area students will be testing the self-driving cars that they spent the entire semester designing and building in today's Grand Prix Style final exam.

  • Florida Poly students to test self-driving cars
  • Students designed, built cars throughout semester
  • Students to race cars in Grand Prix Style final exam

Florida Polytechnic University partnered with FDOT to build the driver-less car test track. The tracks allow for all kinds of testing.

The exam will take place inside the Innovation Science and Technology Building on the Florida Poly campus in Lakeland.

Three teams of students will test the self-driving model vehicles on two challenging courses. Each car will have to drive the course on its own, demonstrating fast autonomous navigation in various environments.

Before the exam, students will practice and map the courses using simultaneous mapping and location technology.
