The investigation continues into a deadly boat crash on the Little Manatee River.

Arthur Showley, 75, was killed Friday when two boats collided just east of the Shell Point Marina in Ruskin. Two others were injured.

Friend and neighbor Joe Ruggiero said Showley was an avid boater who never had any issues on the water.

“From what I know, he was a good boater,” Ruggiero said. “I feel terrible. It’s kind of unbelievable at this point.”

Showley’s wife, who didn’t wish to be identified, said that her husband died doing what he loved - being on the water. She said he went fishing Friday morning when the crash happened. She shared some pictures, saying the two were married for 52 years.

She and others are now trying to figure out what happened after years of boating safely.

“He was pretty careful on the waterways,” Ruggiero said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating to see what lead to the collision. The agency has not released the identity of the other people involved in the crash.
